BASIC ROAD SAFETY STATISTICS

In Kenya alone [according to the Kenya Traffic Police
Department] we recorded 3,144 fatalities for the year
2013, this number is higher than the deaths that were
recorded during the post-election violence in 2007/8,
1,000 lives were lost during those trying times. With
such staggering statistics, in comparison to PEV, we
re-live that by recording three times the number of
deaths as a result of Road Traffic Crashes, it is
equivalent to 3 Post Elections annually. These are
genocide statistics, on our roads. The good thing is
that these trends can be reversed and prevented.
Time for Action time is now, not tomorrow, not a day after that not even an hour later. We need this to
pass, Kenya needs this and the world needs this.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR OF KBK- Ms. PERIS MWANGI

KENYANS BUILDING KENYA HISTORY AND FUTURE PLANS.

My name is Peris Mwangi and I am the mind behind the founding of the Kenyans Building Kenya project.I am passionate about community issues and anything to do with children, talents and sport. It is my great joy to see a child have access to as many opportunities and living their dreams.
K.B.K is mainly centered on empowering and mentoring the existing and forming new projects which will mainly help in promoting growth and nurturing talents in the Kenyan community.I look forward to partnering with the communities involved in these projects to make Kenya a safe haven for everyone no matter what your background is or where you come from. From time to time i would volunteer in different Children's homes.During one of my visits to Nairobi Children's home I met an amazing young boy called Zachariah who got the chance to attend school. But he gave up his position and instead made a humble request to his sponsor that His brother be taken to school first. He said that he was young then(he was about 5 years old at that time) and he could wait a little while longer but would love it if his brother would go to school first before him.
What motivates me on a day to day basis is seeing the smiles on the faces of the children even when you do not offer them much. They appreciate the little things you may do for them be it a simple hug or a pair of shirt or shoes.
K.B.K is just starting. To me it is a platform. It is also a reason to celebrate and embrace our differences in the community to make things work.
When a child gets a sponsor to see them through school they always work hard.Even if they start school late and lag behind in their curriculum they take every opportunity you give them and use it to their advantage.
These children are my life.I am more worried about each and every child more than i get worried about being late on my house rent.Once you get to meet these kids and spend some time with them your whole aspect of life changes. You see things in a different light, you become less selfish and appreciate every little thing that comes your way.
I hope you can join me in my endeavor and my desire to make the dreams of these children come true.
We have to be our brother's or sister's keeper all the time. You never know who will help you in the future. For some reason our lives are connected in more that one way. And helping each other is a calling we cannot ignore. We will need someone to help us in our lives some way too.Be the one to take the first step.Be the leader of the pack.
